방금 찾아보니 배우 둘도 실제로 자매라고 함.
The Issas bring so much of themselves to their roles: as sisters, from their own experience of fleeing war (they first left Lebanon for France in 2006) and the continual struggle to define where “home” is for them. They do not depict the film’s heroines as victims. Nor is Syria shown as if it’s only ever been a war zone.There’s lightness and sarcasm, both of which were crucial to cast and crew. “When I act in Europe, I often find my characters to be very serious,”says Manal.“But that’s not how we deal with things. You can have the worst problem in your life and someone comes to see you and you laugh.”
Yusra agrees: “The main point is to show that refugees are normal. We have dreams. We want to achieve things in life. We go through really tough stuff while crossing and coming to Europe. And no, we don’t come here because of the luxuries. We come here because we want to just have a fair chance in life. We want to live in peace.”
She is currently planning to study film and production, while Sara is interested in working on her German so she can apply to fashion school in Berlin. Manal wants to explore directing and Nathalie just finished her studies and dreams about writing a book. Watching them on set, full of empathy and promise, it’s their drive, their persistence, that impresses most.
“We learnt a lot,” says Sara, thoughtfully, of the trials of their young lives. “I would never have it any other way. I would do the same journey, and would do it with my sister, and would risk everything as we did because we found safety at the end.”
